Zoysia Stadium Grass Sod

Dense, premium turf with a manicured finish

Zoysia Stadium is the premium option — a fine-to-medium bladed turf that grows into a thick, carpet-like mat. That density is its whole advantage: a healthy Zoysia lawn crowds out weeds on its own and holds a manicured look with less input than either alternative. It costs more and grows slower, which is exactly why it stays tidy. We bring Zoysia in by special order, typically ready in one to two business days.

Growing conditions

Sun
6 or more hours of sun, with better shade tolerance than Bermuda but less than St. Augustine.
Water
Moderate and drought-resistant once established, roughly 1 inch per week.
Mowing
Mow at 1.5 to 2.5 inches. Slower growth means fewer mows per season.
Traffic
Very good. Dense growth handles traffic, though it repairs more slowly than Bermuda.

Best for

  • Homeowners who want the best-looking lawn on the street
  • Yards with a mix of sun and light afternoon shade
  • Low-weed lawns without a heavy herbicide program
  • Front yards where appearance matters most

Watch out for

  • Slow to fill in. Damage takes longer to recover than Bermuda
  • Thatch builds over years and eventually needs dethatching
  • Highest cost per pallet of the three grasses we carry

Care after installation

Days 1 to 14

Keep the soil bed consistently moist with daily watering. Zoysia roots more slowly, so do not cut water short.

Weeks 3 to 6

Move to deep watering two to three times a week. First mow once rooted, and keep the blade sharp — Zoysia's tough blades shred under a dull mower.

Ongoing

Light, consistent fertilizer beats heavy feeding. Watch thatch every few years and dethatch or verticut when the layer passes half an inch.

Prepping the soil bed? Pick up enriched topsoil and read the sod installation steps before your pallet arrives.
