Select Fill Dirt
Select fill is a controlled sand-clay blend engineered to compact. Where standard fill dirt is bulk volume, select fill is what goes under a slab, a driveway subgrade, or a building pad that has to hold its shape under load.
What it is used for
- Building pads under slabs and shops
- Driveway and parking subgrade
- Structural backfill that must not settle
- Raising pads above the surrounding grade
Depth & coverage
Recommended depth
6 to 8 inch lifts, compacted to spec on each lift.
Coverage
One cubic yard covers about 54 square feet at 6 inches deep.
Installation tips
- 1Moisture-condition each lift. Bone-dry select fill will not reach density.
- 2Test compaction if the pad is engineered. Guessing costs more than testing.
- 3Extend the pad at least a foot past the slab edge on all sides.
