Black star is a dark gray-to-black angular basalt gravel. The angular faces lock together under traffic, so it holds a driveway surface better than rounded stone, and the near-black color gives beds and paths a dramatic finished edge.

3 inches for beds; 4 inches over a compacted base for driveways.

Installation tips
- 1Run 4 inches of crushed concrete base under any driveway application.
- 2Angular stone compacts. Wet and roll it for a surface that stays where you put it.
- 3Black gravel gets hot in full sun — think twice for barefoot or pet areas.
