Gravel & Stone

2" Bull Rock

Bull rock at 2 inches is a rounded river stone big enough to stay put in moving water. It is the standard material for drainage swales, downspout splash areas, and any low run where soil keeps washing out after Gulf Coast downpours.

What it is used for

  • Drainage swales and dry creek beds
  • Erosion control on slopes and ditch lines
  • Downspout and gutter discharge areas
  • Decorative rock beds under trees

Depth & coverage

Recommended depth

3 to 4 inches for cover; 6 inches or more in an active water channel.

Coverage

One cubic yard covers about 81 square feet at 4 inches deep.

Installation tips

  1. 1Line the channel with filter fabric before placing rock so silt does not fill the gaps.
  2. 2Shape a shallow dish, not a flat pad, so water stays in the channel.
  3. 3Mix 2-inch and 3-5 inch rock for a more natural creek bed look.
