Crushed & Base

Crushed Asphalt

Crushed asphalt is recycled roadway milled down to a workable size. Sun and traffic re-bind the asphalt binder over time, so a properly compacted drive tightens into a firm, dark surface at a fraction of the cost of new pavement.

What it is used for

  • Budget driveways and long rural drives
  • Equipment and RV parking pads
  • Resurfacing a rutted gravel drive
  • Ranch and shop access roads

Depth & coverage

Recommended depth

4 inches compacted over a prepared subgrade; 6 inches for heavy trucks.

Coverage

One cubic yard covers about 81 square feet at 4 inches deep.

Installation tips

  1. 1Roll it in during warm weather. Heat is what knits the binder together.
  2. 2Crown the drive slightly so water sheds to the sides.
  3. 3Expect to top-dress lightly every few years in high-traffic tire tracks.
