Crushed Concrete
Crushed concrete is recycled slab and roadway crushed to a graded base rock. The mix of angular stone and fines locks up hard under a compactor, which makes it the standard base under driveways, sheds, and parking pads across the Houston area.
What it is used for
- Base under concrete slabs and driveways
- Shed and shop pads
- Gravel driveways that need a firm bottom layer
- Stabilizing muddy job-site access
Depth & coverage
Recommended depth
4 to 6 inches compacted for driveways; 6 to 8 inches for heavy loads.
Coverage
One cubic yard covers about 81 square feet at 4 inches deep.
Installation tips
- 1Compact in lifts and wet it lightly. Damp fines bind far better than dry.
- 2Use it as base, then top with decorative gravel if you want a finished look.
- 3Lay geotextile fabric over soft clay before the first lift to keep the base from sinking.
